ABILENE — The Sul Ross State softball team suffered a 14-6 loss to Hardin-Simmons in five innings on Saturday afternoon at Lou Morton Ellis Field.

Sul Ross trailed 4-0 before
Lisbeth Dominguez drove in
Jaelyn Zuniga on a sacrifice fly to center in the top of the second.
Hardin-Simmons answered back by scoring four more runs in the bottom half of the frame to extend its lead to 8-1.
Nadia Valverde hit a solo home run in the top of the third to put the Lobos behind by six.
A pair of RBI singles by
Madison Hodges and
Samantha Chavez cut the deficit to four in the top of the fourth.
The Lobos went on to score two more runs in the top of the fifth.
Elizabeth Clemente delivered an RBI single while
Veronica Rodriguez drew a bases-loaded walk.
Hardin-Simmons rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Sul Ross had nine hits.
Zuniga went 2 for 3 with a single and a double while Clemente finished with two singles and an RBI to go 2 for 3.
Hannah Clark finished 2 for 2 with a single and a double.
Hodges and Valverde each went 1 for 2 while Chavez finished 1 for 4.
Hunter Montes allowed three hits and three earned runs as she faced five batters.
Briannah Mejias and
Erin Trevino came into relieve the next four innings.
Leanza Chambers faced two batters in 2/3 of an inning as she did not allow a single hit or run.
