MEN'S BASKETBALL: Concordia tops Sul Ross, 106-99, in overtime

Trey Nelson scores 26 points for the Lobos

There were 16 different lead changes while the score changed nine times.

Four players had 20 or more points.

It was a barn-burner Saturday evening as the Concordia Tornados came out with the 106-99 overtime victory over the Sul Ross men's basketball team at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

Concordia led 4-0 to start the first half until Caelyb Kerley knocked down a three-pointer. The Tornados then went up by six.

The Lobos cut the deficit to one when Vince Peralez made a jumper in the paint while Kerley nailed another clutch three.

Concordia went ahead by four before the Lobos cut the deficit back down to one on a three-pointer by Hayden Peterson.

It was the same verse once again as the Tornados went up by four and then Trey Nelson landed a three to get to within one with 14:09 in the first half.

The Tornados went up by three and then Luke Pluymen drained a shot from beyond the arc to tie the game at 17-all.

Concordia answered back with a three and then Sul Ross got another three from Pluymen to make the score 20-20.

Daveone Bass followed up with five quick points which included a three-pointer to put Sul Ross on top, 25-20, with 9:23 on the clock.

The Tornados then went on a 5-0 run to tie up the game.

Sul Ross reclaimed the lead by two when Pluymen made another three-pointer with 7:30 remaining.

Concordia flipped the script by taking a one-point lead by landing a three-pointer of its own.

Nelson gave the Lobos a two-point lead with 4:37 on the clock when he made another three-pointer. Concordia came back to tie the game at 38-all.

The Tornados led 42-39 at the break.

Concordia led by as much as seven in the second half before the Lobos used a 7-0 run to tie the game at 53-all.

The game was tied three more times until the Tornados led by two after a free throw was made with eight seconds to go in regulation.

Peterson made a jumper in the paint with two seconds to tie the game at 91-all to send the game into overtime.

Concordia shifted into third gear by outscoring the Lobos 15-8 to escape victorious.

Nelson scored 26 points while he knocked down six 3-pointers and shot 10 of 16 from the field. Nelson also added with seven assists before fouling out of the game.

Pluymen added with 20 points while Peralez chipped in with 16 points. Kerley finished with 15 points before exiting the contest with five fouls.

The Lobos made 16 three-pointers while shooting 7 of 9 from the free throw line.
