MONAHANS — Six days away from their road game against Schreiner University, the Sul Ross State softball team is continuing to fine tune their game.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Lobos took on University of the Southwest for an exhibition doubleheader at Monahans High School.
In Game 1, the Lobos trailed 5-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh when
Nadia Valverde hit a walk-off two RBI single to lift her team to a 6-5 victory.
Sul Ross scattered seven hits in Game 2 to come out with the sweep with a 6-2 win.
>> GAME 1 STATS:
Valverde finished 2 for 4 with a single, home run and four RBI.
Annika Canaba tallied a single to go 1 for 4 with an RBI.
Sul Ross had seven hits.
Lisbeth Dominguez went 1 for 3 with a double while
Jenna Spencer finished 1 for 2 with a double and a walk.
Claire Decker hit a single to go 1 for 2 with a walk.
In five innings of work,
Hunter Montes struck out five batters while allowing five hits.
Briannah Mejias threw two innings allowing two hits and no runs.

The Lobos scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth as they took advantage of three singles and four walks.
Samantha Chavez had a single and a double to go 2 for 4.
Madison Hodges tallied two RBI as she went 1 for 2 with a single.
Canaba went 1 for 2 with a single, walk and an RBI while
Adriana Hernandez had a single, walk and an RBI to also go 1 for 2.
Jaelyn Zuniga finished 1 for 2 with a triple and RBI. Valverde had a single and a walk to go 1 for 2.
Madilyn Martinez got the start in the circle, tossing five innings allowing six hits and one earned run.
Erin Trevino struck out one batter in 1.1 innings of relief.
Leanza Chambers did not allow a single hit or run in 2/3 innings pitched.
