ABILENE, Texas — It was a high-scoring affair Thursday night at the Kimbrell Arena.
Four Lobos tallied double-digit scoring figures, but Sul Ross State came up short, 102-92, to the McMurry War Hawks.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lobos were up by as much as 14 points with 10:42 in the first half.
Trey Nelson knocked down a three to give Sul Ross State a five-point lead.
Bryce Harris then made a jumper in the paint and
Omar Ibarra scored with a layup to put the Lobos up by eight.
Using a 5-0 run highlighted by a three from
Gabe Sanchez and a layup by
Cailean Ables, the Lobos led 34-20 at the 10:42 mark.
McMurry closed the gap by trailing by five points after it used a 6-0 run toward the final stretch.
The War Hawks began the second half on a 4-0 run to trail by one point.
A clutch three by
Hayden Peterson put the Lobos ahead by four.
McMurry answered back with a three before
Manny Flores knocked down a trey with 16:58 on the clock.
The War Hawks tied up the game at 59-all during a 9-0 run as they ended up taking a five-point lead.
Sul Ross State fired back with a 6-0 run, tying the game at 67-67 as Nelson made another three-pointer with 12:45 to go.
McMurry went ahead by two with a layup and then
Will Fievre tied up the game at 69-69 after he made two free throws.
The War Hawks led by nine until the Lobos fought back to within two after Ibarra made a three-pointer with 2:44 on the clock.
Closing out the contest with an 8-0 run, McMurry pulled away late in the game to seal the victory.

- Sanchez scored a season-high 26 points while he had four assists and one rebound.
- Ibarra and Nelson each had 12 points. Ibarra had three assists and four rebounds while Nelson added with two assists and two rebounds.
- Ables finished with 11 points.
- Harris grabbed a team-high seven rebounds while scoring six points.
- Tyler Jackson also had seven rebounds while he tallied eight points.
- The Lobos knocked down 11 three-pointers as they shot 52 percent from beyond the arc. Sanchez made five 3-pointers.
- Sul Ross State shot 9 of 15 from the charity stripe.
- The Lobos narrowly grabbed more rebounds than McMurry, 32-31.
- Sul Ross State got 52 points from the bench.
