MEN'S BASKETBALL: Lobos get back into win column with 83-61 victory over the Ozarks

After suffering a tough loss earlier in the week, the Sul Ross State men's basketball team rebounded with an 83-61 win over the University of the Ozarks Eagles on Thursday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

The Lobos began the contest on a 5-0 run with five points from Trey Nelson, which included a three-pointer.

Using an 11-0 run, Sul Ross State pulled ahead by 12 points with 8:31 remaining.

With 24 seconds to go until halftime, Zyrin Brantley got a steal that turned into a quick layup before the Eagles cut the deficit down to eight on a made three-pointer before time expired.

Manny Flores started the second half with a three to put the Lobos up by 11.

Taking advantage of a steal by Hayden Peterson who later capitalized with a layup, Sul Ross State extended its lead to 14 with 16:32 on the clock.

Using some points in the paint by Nelson and Cailean Ables, the Lobos made the score 53-36.

On a 7-0 run, Sul Ross State took its largest lead of the contest after Jordan Rhyne got a three-point play after getting fouled on a made layup with 2:19 to go.

>> POSTGAME INTERVIEWS:

"We flipped the script today winning the rebounding the battle. We had good ball movement and were able to find the open guys, and it was good to see that ball go through the net. Focus and our preparation was better. We got to stack games together just like we stack practices together." — Head coach Xavier Webb

"It feels great. Just to get back in the win column against a conference opponent, especially the way we did, is a huge confidence booster. Like I'm always going to say, coach Webb establishes our defense and we do everything off of our defense. You can't just guard one guy. We got four or five guys that can beat you. We trusted each other. We're really player-led. We're going to run with it." — Gabe Sanchez
