FOOTBALL: 12 Lobos earn ASC All-Conference honors

A total of 12 Sul Ross State football players were named to the American Southwest Conference All-Conference team.

>> Javeon Moses, linebacker, senior (Outstanding Sportsman of the Year):

Moses finishes his career with 82 total tackles, 42 solo tackles and 10 tackles for loss. This past season, he made 28 total tackles, 19 solo tackles, nine assisted tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one pass breakup and two fumble recoveries.

>> Xavier Garcia, junior, offensive lineman (First team offense):

Garcia helped the Lobos to become the third-best passing offense in the ASC as the team finished with 2,391 passing yards. In addition, he also helped paved the way for a rushing attack that ranked fourth in the conference with 1,127 yards.

>> Carlos Arreola, freshman, kicker (First team offense):

Arreola was named ASC Special Teams Player of the Week twice this season (Sept. 18 and Oct. 2). He led the conference with 12 made field goals out of 17 attempts. Arreola also ranked fifth in the ASC in scoring with 62 total points. His 28 extra points ranked second overall. Arreola's 46-yard field goal made against Wayland Baptist on Sept. 16 was the longest kick made in the conference this season. He made a season-high three field goals against Texas Lutheran on Sept. 30, which included the game-winning 38-yard kick. Arreola had 50 kickoffs for 2,790 yards. He also recorded 17 touchbacks to rank second in the conference.

>> Dayln Dunbar, defensive lineman, senior (First team defense):

Dunbar was named to the ASC All-Conference team for the second time in his career as he earned third team defense in 2022. He finishes his career with 105 total tackles and 16.5 sacks. Dunbar tied for first in the ASC in sacks with seven for 54 yards. He tallied 37 total tackles, 22 assisted tackles, a team-high 9.5 tackles for loss along with one pass breakup.

>> Vince Luevano, wide receiver, junior (Second team offense):

Luevano caught 36 passes for 549 yards and six touchdowns. He ranked eighth in the conference in receiving yards, third in punt return yards (12 returns for 122 yards and one touchdown) and seventh in all-purpose yards with 868. Luevano's seven total touchdowns ranked sixth in the ASC. His 75-yard touchdown reception against Howard Payne on Nov. 4 was the fourth-longest touchdown in the conference. Luevano was also named ASC Special Teams Player of the Week (Oct. 9). He now has 2,011 career receiving yards along with 23 career touchdowns.

>> Rodd Hudson III, running back, junior (Second team offense):

Hudson recorded a team-high 347 rushing yards on 114 carries with two touchdowns. He ranked eighth in the conference in rushing. He had a season-high 103 yards rushing against Wayland Baptist on Sept. 16.

>> Bobby Williams, kick returner, freshman (Second team offense):

Williams was the third-best kick returner in the ASC after he tallied 469 yards on 23 returns. His 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against East Texas Baptist on Oct. 28 is the longest recorded in the conference. Williams also had six receptions for 67 yards and two touchdowns.

>> Jade Rios, linebacker, senior (Second team defense):

Rios led the ASC in solo tackles with 59 and total tackles with 100. His 41 assisted tackles ranked third in the conference. Rios finishes his career with 245 total tackles and 126 solo tackles. His game-high mark of 15 total tackles came twice against Eastern New Mexico on Sept. 9 and Howard Payne on Nov. 4. Rios also recorded five tackles for loss and two sacks.

>> Alec Garcia, defensive back, sophomore (Second team defense):

Garcia earned ASC Special Teams Player of the Week honors back on Nov. 6. Garcia had a 105-yard touchdown return on a missed field goal attempt during the 47-42 win over Howard Payne on Nov. 4. He ranked second in the conference with 11 pass breakups. Garcia was tied for the lead in the ASC with 13 passes defended. He also had two interceptions, 19 total tackles, six assisted tackles, one tackle for loss and 13 solo tackles.

>> Isaiah Pena, wide receiver, sophomore (Third team offense):

Pena ranked fifth in the ASC with 638 receiving yards on 38 receptions with four touchdowns. His 79-yard touchdown reception against Wayland Baptist on Sept. 16 is the second-longest touchdown of the season in the ASC. Against Wayland, Pena had a season-high 164 receiving yards.

>> Chris Ruiz, punter, sophomore (Third team defense):

Based on yardage, Ruiz ranked fifth in the ASC with 43 punts for 1,692 yards. He had two touchbacks, nine punts inside the 20 and five punts for over 50 yards. His 64-yard punt during the Wayland Baptist game on Sept. 16 is the second-longest punt in the ASC.

>> Andrew Martinez, quarterback, sophomore (Honorable mention offense):

Martinez finished the season as the third-best quarterback in the ASC with 1,807 yards passing and 14 touchdowns as he completed 134 of 257 passes. Martinez ranked second on the team in rushing with 87 carries for 306 yards and two touchdowns. His 2,113 total yards of offense ranked third in the conference. Martinez recorded a season-best 339 yards passing and four touchdowns through the air against Howard Payne on Nov. 4.
