HOBBS, N.M. — On Tuesday night, the Sul Ross State volleyball team defeated the University of the Southwest Mustangs in four sets, 25-15, 26-24, 23-25, 25-21, at the Jack & Mabel Maddox Student Life Center.

Sul Ross State began the first set with a dominating 7-0 run.
Eliana Mata tallied two service aces while
Daniella Garcia had two kills during the run.
The Lobos extended their lead to eight when
Loren Garcia served up an ace.
Sul Ross State continued to show its dominance by leading 19-7 after a 3-0 run that featured two kills by
Loren Garcia and a kill from
Edie Coleman.
Jayci Richters notched the set point with a kill to give the Lobos the 10-point win.
The Lobos led 10-6 early in the second set.
University of the Southwest then added some suspense down the stretch by tying up the game at 17-all.
There were four lead changes until the Mustangs took a 23-21 lead after using a 4-0 run.
Unphased, the Lobos began their comeback by using a late 4-0 run that was highlighted by two service aces by
Brylee Sweeten and a pair of kills from
Daniella Garcia and
Cassandra Espinoza.
Sul Ross State rallied back to take the 26-24 victory in the second set.
The third set had 13 different lead changes.
Sul Ross State led 21-18 before the score was tied twice. The Mustangs were able to keep the match alive by squeezing out a 3-0 run to take the third set.
The Lobos trailed in the middle of the fourth set by a score of 12-10.
Using a 6-1 run later on, Sul Ross State took a 16-13 lead.
Loren Garcia had two clutch kills while Mata served up another ace and Espinoza came down with another kill to swing the momentum back.
Sul Ross State then went on a 4-0 run to take a six-point lead.
The Mustangs cut down the deficit to three, but the Lobos prevailed as
Sarah Chavez dealt the final kill of the match to seal up the victory.
