MEN'S SOCCER: Lobos drop hard-fought battle to UT-Dallas during ASC opener

Sul Ross is back in action Saturday afternoon, hosting the University of the Ozarks

All season long, the Sul Ross State men's soccer team has been hunting for their first victory of the season.

It was within grasp during the conference opener Thursday evening as the Lobos took on a quality side in the University of Texas at Dallas.

The Lobos gave it all they had, but the Comets came out victorious 1-0 at Lobo Soccer Field.

Blayne Martinez broke the ice quickly one and a half minutes into the match. Martinez was assisted by Omega Eyassu.

From that point on it was a defensive battle.

The Comets were handed two yellow cards during the second half. Sul Ross was unable to capitalize.

Sul Ross tallied eight shots, with four coming on the mark. Pablo Herrera, Nana Prempeh, Ryan Seidon and Xavier Russell all fired at the goal, but goalkeeper Michael Hesse was there to make the clutch saves.

Lobo goalkeeper Julian Sandoval became a fortress in the net after allowing the first goal, making seven saves.

The Comets managed to out shoot the Lobos 14-8.
