JACKSON, Miss. — The Sul Ross State men's soccer team made the grueling 13-hour bus ride to Mississippi for their season-opening match against the Belhaven Blazers on Thursday evening.
With 2:04 in the opening half, the Blazers broke the ice with a goal from Igor Rudolph.
Three minutes later, Belhaven increased its lead to 2-0 after Julian Carreira found the back of the net on an assist from Lex Rogers.
The Lobos fought hard, but the Blazers' offense fired off three goals in the second half.
Christian Figueroa (54'), Jake Estes (56') and Carreira (59') helped Belhaven to build up its lead for the 5-0 victory.
Sul Ross had five shots in the contest, three by
Pablo Herrera.
Jacob Garza tallied one shot on goal.
Defensively, goalkeeper
Alexis Tellez recorded four saves while
Julian Sandoval had one.
