ALPINE, Texas - Softball came away with a 6-3 win Saturday to sweep the series over Howard Payne.
"It was a great weekend for our team," said head coach
Troy Canaba. "We had a great crowd and some big wins for us. I'm proud of this team!"
Nadia Valverde sent a deep fly to left field for a 1-0 lead in the second.
Veronica Rodriguez later singled home
Danielle Gomez for a 2-0 score after two.
Samantha Chavez doubled around Hardin in the fourth before Canaba brought in Chavez on a single.
Payslee Sims later doubled home Canaba and
Alejandra Ruedas for a 6-0 lead after four.
HPU got three back in the sixth to cut it to 6-3.
Jodie Vaughn shook off the past inning and completed a scoreless seventh for the 6-3 win. She went all seven innings with six strikeouts.
Canaba and Sims tied a game-high two hits each. Sims led the way with two RBI.
The win moves the Lobos to 17-14 on the season and 10-11 in ASC play. They are winners of their last five. HPU falls to 4-25 and 1-20.
Sully will next host Ozarks for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 14.
