ALPINE, Texas - Four runs in the second and a complete game from
Jodie Vaughn were the difference in softball's 5-2 win over #7 East Texas Baptist.
"Effort and attitude, two things we control," said head coach
Troy Canaba. "We were able to clean things up and hit the ball more consistently. Our defense played well behind Jodie, which she pitched two great games."
With two outs and a runner on second, the Lobos rattled off four straight hits.
Raquelle Bernal first singled home
Veronica Rodriguez for the first run of the game.
Camryn Hardin then stepped in and singled in Bernal.
Samantha Chavez made it 3-0 with a double to bring in Hardin before
Annika Canaba singled around Chavez for a 4-0 lead after two.
The Tigers cut their deficit in half with a pair of runs in the third for a 4-2 score.
Sully got one more in the sixth when
Lisbeth Dominguez scored on a throwing error for a 5-2 advantage.
Jodie Vaughn was commanding, throwing four shutout innings to finish the game for the 5-2 win.
Vaughn allowed seven hits, striking out three with no walks.
The Lobos improve to 12-13 on the season and 5-10 in the ASC. ETBU falls to 20-6 and 14-4.
Sully next heads back on the road, taking on UT Dallas in a doubleheader on Friday, April 1 in Richardson.
