ALPINE, Texas - Softball had #7 East Texas Baptist on the ropes in game one but ultimately fell 6-3 and then 12-2 in Friday's doubleheader.
Game 1: East Texas Baptist 6, Sul Ross 3
The Lobos broke a 0-0 tie with a three-run shot by
Nadia Valverde in the third for a 3-0 lead.
ETBU got one back in the sixth with a double before
Jodie Vaughn later got out of a bases-loaded jam to keep it 3-1.
Sully took the two-run lead to the seventh, but the Tigers tacked on five runs for a 6-3 advantage that soon went final.
Valverde matched a game-high three RBI and had two hits.
Payslee Sims and
Heather Rios finished with a game-best three hits.
Vaughn went all seven innings with six strikeouts.
Game 2: East Texas Baptist 12, Sul Ross 2 (5 innings)
ETBU scored four in the first and one in the second for a 5-0 lead after two.
Valverde kept her hot bat going, singling home
Samantha Chavez and
Annika Canaba to cut it to 6-2 after three.
The Tigers answered back with four in the fourth and three in the fifth for a 12-2 lead that went final after five.
Sully stands at 11-13 and 4-10 in conference. ETBU moves to 20-5 and 14-3.
The Lobos and Tigers finish the series Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from Lobo Field.
