SAN ANTONIO — The three-game road trip for the Sul Ross State women's basketball team continued on Sunday afternoon with an exhibition game against NCAA Division I opponent University of the Incarnate Word.
The Cardinals led 20-0 after one quarter to win the contest 77-36 at the McDermott Center.
Sul Ross ended the scoring drought after
Brianna Martin made three free throws with 8:40 in the second quarter.
Lauren Lusk followed with a layup to give the Lobos a 5-0 run.
Incarnate Word outscored Sul Ross 23-12 in the second quarter to lead 43-12 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Lobos got a pair of three-pointers from Martin and
Vania Hampton.
Martin finished with 10 points while Hampton and
Melody Martinez each chipped in with five points. Martinez grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and also tallied three assists.
Marley Rokas tallied four points, three boards and two steals.
Sul Ross knocked down five 3-pointers. Martinez, Martin and Hampton joined
Kayley Diaz and
Emily Bunger by making shots from beyond the arc.
The Lobos managed to out rebound Incarnate Word, 40-39. Lusk and Hampton each came down with five rebounds.
Bunger and
Victoria Aguayo both had four boards while
Courtney Cavallin finished with three rebounds.
