AUSTIN — A tough three-game road trip came to an end Monday afternoon for the Sul Ross State women's basketball team.
The Lobos held a three-point lead with 25 seconds to go in the fourth quarter, but Concordia landed three free throws down the stretch to walk away with a 65-52 win at the Concordia Fieldhouse.
Sul Ross held a brief one-point lead in the first quarter before the Tornadoes took a six-point lead.
A jumper by
Emily Bunger cut the deficit down to four with 1:34 to go. Concordia then went up by seven before
Lauren Lusk made a layup to put Sul Ross behind by five.
Taryn Aguilar started off the second quarter with a layup to put the Lobos to within three.
Ileana Morales later landed a clutch three-pointer to cut the deficit to two.
Concordia then pressed forward for a seven-point lead.
A jumper by
Marley Rokas and a three-pointer by
Melody Martinez put the Lobos behind by two at halftime.
The Tornadoes led by as much as nine in the third quarter before the Lobos battled all the way to tie the game at 38-all with 5:17 on the clock.
Vania Hampton tied up the game and later gave Sul Ross a one-point lead after making two free throws.
Concordia went ahead by four until
Brianna Martin landed a three-pointer to cut the deficit down to one with 3:52 remaining.
The game was deadlocked at 53-all with 5:32 in the fourth quarter as Sul Ross overcame a four-point deficit after a pair of jumpers by Martin and Martinez.
Concordia then gained a five-point lead before Rokas made a three-pointer with 1:32 to go to put the Lobos behind by one.
Rokas finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Martinez added with 12 points.
Martin chipped in with nine points and Hampton tallied eight points and nine boards.
Bunger grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds as the Lobos won the battle on the glass by grabbing 58 rebounds to Concordia's 44.
