WALLA WALLA, Wash. —
Trey Nelson scored 21 points for the Sul Ross State men's basketball team during a 78-63 loss to the Whitman College Blues on Saturday night at the Sherwood Center.
The Blues began the game with a 12-0 run before Luke Pluymen put the Lobos on the board with a layup that was fueled by a steal from Hayden Peterson.
Whitman led by as much as 22 points in the first half.
The lead grew to 24 points with 14:09 in the second half. Sul Ross managed to cut the deficit down to 14 with a pair of free throws made by
Caelyb Kerley.
Nelson added two more free throws with 1:43 left in the contest to get the Lobos within 13.
Julian Paredes chipped in with 12 points and four rebounds. Nelson grabbed a team-high seven boards.
Pluymen, Christian Nevarez and Vince Peralez all tallied six points. Pluymen also had three steals and three assists.
Nelson finished 10 for 11 from the free throw line as the Lobos ended up shooting 19 of 24 from the charity stripe.
Sul Ross was out-rebounded 43-28. Nevarez grabbed six boards on the defensive side.
