CROSS COUNTRY: Sul Ross runners hard at work

Lobos compete next at the Saints Invitational on Friday

The Sul Ross State cross country squads have been hard at work on the road.

So far, the team has traveled 2,148 miles, running in Lubbock, Pflugerville and San Antonio.

Under first-year head coach Elena Cano, an Alpine native and former track and cross-country standout at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, here's how the Lobos have fared.

>> TEXAS TECH OPEN: Lobo women's soccer players pulled double duty by running with the cross-country squad.

Mariana Chavez ran a time of 37:57.60 to place a team-best 101st overall. Melanie Torres, Natalie Rodriguez, Isabella Andolina and Celeste De La Rosa followed closely behind for the next four spots.

Torres was behind Chavez with a time of 37:58.50.

On the men's side of the race, Logan Farris had the best time for Sul Ross after clocking in at 32:49.31 to finish 109th overall.

Christopher Bell, Braeden Denson, Elijah Uribe and Mark Canales rounded out the other four runners.

Sul Ross finished 13th out of 13 teams in the men's and women's races.

>> CONCORDIA CLASSIC: Reagan Ramsey paced the Lobos with a time of 28:13.7 to finish a team-best 59th overall.

Kyndell Garcia came in 70th with a time of 32:00.1 while Cody Melancon arrived in 76th place with a time of 34:32.7.

Kylie Garcia and Veronica Castaneda rounded out the other two runners for Sul Ross.

The women finished 11th out of 12 teams. Sul Ross finished 11 points ahead of last place North American University.

Farris once again paced the Lobos in the men's competition, running a time of 29:09.4 to finish 83rd. Bell clocked in at 31:58.2 to finish 102nd overall.

Uribe, Lee Kubosh and Roman Salcido were the next three runners to cross the finish line.

The Lobos finished 14th out of 14 teams on the men's side.

>> University of the Incarnate Word Invitational: This past weekend on Saturday, Oct. 1 in San Antonio, the Sul Ross women finished three points behind the University of Dallas to place 14th out of 14 teams.

Ramsey led the pack with a team-best time of 28:43 while Isabella Macias ran a time of 30:28. Melancon, Garcia and Castaneda later crossed the finished line as Melancon clocked in at 35:11.

The Sul Ross men compiled 403 points to finish 13th out of 13 teams.

Farris had the best finish with a time of 30:26 while Bell ran a time of 34:16. Uribe finished with a time of 39:36.
