LONGVIEW — The Sul Ross State women's team won their second-straight game Thursday evening to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The Lobos notched a 1-0 victory over the LeTourneau University Yellowjackets.
It all started during the 10th minute when
Judith Macias won possession of a ball and then passed off to
Joanna Estrada who finished off the run with a goal that went into the far-right corner past the LeTourneau goalkeeper.
Estrada now has three goals on the year, which is tied for second-most on the squad alongside
Deserie Herrera and
Yissel Olivares.
Sul Ross dominated possession during the first half, taking five shots while holding the Yellowjackets to two shots.
The Lobos out-shot LeTourneau, 14-7, in the match. Sul Ross had seven shots on the mark.
Macias finished with four shots, three came on the mark, while
Julia Gomez had three shots. Estrada and
Emily Garcia each tallied two shots.
Goalkeeper
Alitzel Ybarra made three saves.
This is the second time the Lobos shutout an opponent since Sept. 23.
Sul Ross is currently in sixth place with eight points in the American Southwest Conference. The Lobos remain ahead of the University of the Ozarks, East Texas Baptist and Howard Payne, which all have one win in conference play.
