IRVING — On Thursday evening, the University of Dallas Crusaders edged out the Sul Ross State men's soccer team, 2-1.
The Lobos dropped their fourth match by one goal.
Once again, the opportunities were there, Sul Ross just couldn't capitalize.
Enzo Marcello put the Crusaders on top during the 39th minute.
The University of Dallas narrowly out-shot the Lobos, 10-9, in the first half.
Brian Rusch extended the Crusaders' lead to 2-0 when he scored in the 53rd minute off an assist from Alex Melgoza and Victor Salvo.
Sul Ross had a golden opportunity during the 54th minute when
David Gallegos was presented with a penalty kick that was saved by the Crusader goalkeeper.
The Lobos ended the shutout when
Julio Hinojos scored in the 60th minute with an assist by
Justin Quinonez.
Hinojos, Quinonez, Gallegos and
Mauricio Perez each finished with three shots.
Jair Moreno tallied five shots.
Sul Ross goalkeeper
Ricardo Bolanos made 13 saves in the net. The Crusaders had 22 shots compared to 19 for the Lobos.
The University of Dallas had more shots on the mark with 15 while Sul Ross had seven.
