MEN'S SOCCER: McMurry battles past Sul Ross 1-0

Lobos tallied 17 shots in loss

The frustration continues for the Sul Ross State men's soccer program.

On Thursday afternoon, the Lobos lost a tough nail-biter, 1-0, to the McMurry War Hawks at the Lobo Soccer Field.

Since September 2018, Sul Ross has engaged in four tight matches against the War Hawks. The Lobos haven't beaten McMurry since March 14, 2021.

The previous two games have been decided by one goal.

Armando Saldana got McMurry on the board in the 23rd minute, which proved to be the game winner.

From that point on the game tightened up and turned into a defensive battle. Sul Ross had some chances in the second half, but it couldn't find the back of the net.

The Lobos had 17 shots, which on paper was five more than McMurry. Julio Hinojos and Justin Quinonez had three shots each.

David Gallegos had four shots, with two coming on the mark. Jair Moreno, Nana Prempeh, Antonio Lozano and Xavier Russell all tallied one shot apiece.

Goalkeeper Julian Sandoval made three saves in the net.
