After having Friday night's game canceled against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, the Sul Ross State volleyball went back to work Saturday afternoon against the Concordia University Tornadoes.
The Lobos fought a tough battle, but the Tornadoes came away with the sweep, 25-19, 26-24, 25-23, at the Gallego Center.
There were eight different lead changes in the first set until the Lobos went on a 3-0 run after some clutch kills by
Daniella Garcia and
Cassandra Espinoza.
Concordia then flipped the script with a 7-0 run to take a 21-17 lead. The Tornadoes closed out the set on an 11-2 run to win the first game.
Aided by a kill from
Taryn Griner and a service ace by
Annika Canaba, Sul Ross led 5-1 early in the second set.
Concordia used a 6-0 run to take a one-point lead.
There were nine different lead changes until the Tornadoes edged out Sul Ross to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.
The Tornadoes led 17-12 in the middle of the third set. Concordia led by as much as eight before the Lobos went on a 5-0 run to trail by two.
Sul Ross fought until the very end, but the Tornadoes pulled away by two to earn the sweep.
Canaba tallied 10 kills, 14 assists and 11 digs while Griner added with 11 kills.
Kamrynn Caruth aided the offense with 14 assists. Defensively,
Faith Herrera had 11 digs while
Tatyana Colon finished with eight.
