ALPINE, Texas - Nuvia Guillen cut into a two-goal deficit with a second half goal, but women's soccer was defeated 4-1 by Belhaven in their home opener on Thursday morning.

Belhaven took an early lead with a goal in the 19th minute for a 1-0 score that went to the half.

Scoring again came for the Blazers in the 62nd minute for a 2-0 advantage.

Nuvia Guillen netted her 3rd goal of the season in the 63rd minute off an assist by Britney Berumen to cut it to 2-1.

Sully kept offensive pressure on Belhaven through the contest with six shots in the first half, five in the second and five on the goal for the game.

The Blazers were able to pad their lead with goals in the 63rd and 84th minutes for an eventual 4-1 win over the Lobos.

Aylin Pereyra and Berumen both tied a game-high three shots on the day. Pereyra also led the Sully with two shots on goal.

Alitzel Ybarra played all 90 minutes in goal and had eight saves.

FROM COACH DOMINGUEZ:
  • The ladies played with heart and passion today and we had a couple chances on goal. We were just not able to find the back of the net.
  • It's all a forward process from here as each game is a lesson to learn.
  • Aylin Pereyra and Angelina Escobar played well today. They were able to find space in between Belhaven's midfield line.
  • We will adapt and bounce back next Thursday.
The Lobos fall to 1-4 and 0-3 in conference play. Belhaven moves to 6-2-1 and 1-1-1.

Sully next plays Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday, October 7 in Belton.
