Set 1:
Sully opened set one with a 4-0 run with the help of two service aces from
Kamrynn Caruth and a kill by
Loren Garcia.
Arlington Baptist bounced back with an 8-2 run for a their first lead at 8-6.
The Lobos took four different one-point leads before their fifth resulted in a two-point advantage of 15-13.
A quick 4-1 run put the Patriots ahead 17-16 before
Taryn Griner answered with a kill for a 17-17 tie.
Arlington Baptist responded with a kill to go ahead one, but Sully used a 6-0 run for lead 23-18.
Isabella Ruiz first tied it with a kill before three attack errors by the Patriots put the Lobos ahead by three.
Loren Garcia added a kill for a four-point advantage that was then extended to 23-18 on another attack error by Arlington Baptist.
Sully saw their lead cut to 23-20 but answered with a
Daniella Garcia kill and Caruth's third ace for a 25-20 win in set one.
Set 2:
The Patriots opened the set with a service ace but quickly found themselves down big after a 9-0 run by the Lobos. Canaba added two kills and Caruth notched two more aces during the run for a 9-1 lead.
Sully's lead was cut to five on a pair of occasions but ballooned back to 10 on a 6-1 run.
Daniella Garcia and
Isabella Ruiz added kills during the stretch that also included an ace from
Faith Herrera for an 18-8 advantage.
The Lobos never let the lead to within seven again as they ended set two with a 7-3 run. Canaba started with a kill and later
Mia Bella Ruiz added another. Canaba soon after brought it to within a point before an attack error by the Patriots did the rest for a 25-14 win for Sul Ross in set two.
Set 3:
Arlington Baptist held the lead or it was tied until an attack error gave Sully their first lead of 3-2.
The Patriots took the lead back at 4-3, but Griner quickly tied it back up with a kill. That was the start of a 6-0 answer that saw an ace from Canaba and kill from
Mia Bella Ruiz for a 9-4 advantage.
Griner and
Mia Bella Ruiz then put an end to a 3-0 response with back-to-back kills to go ahead 11-7.
After a kill cut it back to three,
Daniella Garcia's kill made it 12-8 and started a quick 4-0 run in which
Loren Garcia also added a kill for a 15-8 lead.
The Lobos held at least a four-point lead the rest of the way. Canaba notched two more kills down the stretch, Caruth added a kill, and the final point came on an ace by
Mia Bella Ruiz for a 25-19 win and a sweep of the Patriots.
Canaba finished with a game-high nine kills and tied for a game-best 13 assists.
Caruth was also in double digits with 11 assists and had a game-high five service aces.
Herrera led the way with a team-high 16 digs.
Mia Bella Ruiz was not far behind with 10.
Match Two vs. University of Dallas

Set 1:
Dallas opened with the first two points of the match before an attack error put the Lobos on the board at 2-1.
The Crusaders scored the next three until Canaba ended that small run with kill to cut it to 5-2.
Mia Bella Ruiz notched the next point for the Lobos with a kill to make it a 6-3 deficit.
Now down 8-4, Griner and
Daniella Garcia used back-to-back kills to trim it to 8-6. Dallas came back with a kill of their own but another kill from Garcia again cut it to two. Caruth then got the serve and notched an ace to trail 9-8.
After a Crusader kill, Canaba and
Loren Garcia answered with back-to-back kills for a 10-10 tie.
Dallas was then able to pull away some with an 8-3 run for an 18-13 advantage.
A service error followed by a service ace from
Isabella Ruiz put the Lobos within three at 18-15.
The Crusaders were able to secure it with an 8-1 finish for a 25-16 win in set one.
Set 2:
Dallas again put the first point on the board, but that was short-lived after a 5-0 run from the Lobos. Caruth started with a kill that was followed by kills from Canaba and
Victoria Flores. After a ball handling error gave Sully another point, Caruth finished the run with an ace for a 5-1 lead.
Sully held the lead until a 7-7 tie and eventual 9-7 lead for the Crusaders.
The Lobos got it to 9-8 on an attack error but soon fell behind 13-8.
Caruth and Griner added kills to help trim it to 15-12 but could only cut it to three one more time as Dallas took set two with a 25-19 score.
Set 3:
Victoria Flores used an early kill for a 1-1 tie in the early goings of set three.
Dallas held a slim lead through the start of the set before opening up a 15-8 lead with a 6-2 run.
Isabella Ruiz put an end to the run with a kill to start a 7-3 Sully run. Griner added a kill before
Daniella Garcia added two more. Caruth finished the streak with an ace to trail 18-15.
The Crusaders stretched it back to five before
Victoria Flores came back with a kill and an ace for a 21-18 game.
Sully was able to get within three again at 24-21 with a kill from Griner and a service ace from
Isabella Ruiz, but Dallas finished off the set with a kill for a 25-21 win in set three and a sweep of the match.
Canaba led the Lobos in kills with eight and tied Herrera with 11 digs. Canaba's 14 assists were two behind Caruth's team-high 16. Caruth again led the match with three service aces.
The Lobos stand at 1-1 on the season after the split.
Sully is back in action Saturday for the final day of the tournament. They'll take on Schreiner at 10:00 a.m. before facing host Austin College at 12:00 p.m. in Sherman.
