HOUSTON, Texas - Two unanswered goals in the second half handed men's soccer their first loss of the season on Sunday against St. Thomas (TX) in Houston.

Sully held the 1-0 lead until the Celts tied it at 68:00 for a 1-1 score.

It remained 1-1 until late in the second half when St. Thomas again found the back of the net at 87:17 for a 2-1 lead that also went final.

FROM COACH E:
  • The guys are obviously dejected. We battled hard and had them on the ropes.
  • A lot of guys stepped up and played a part to give us a chance throughout the afternoon.
  • In the end we won't make excuses. The travel, the conditions and the quality opponent on the road got the best of us.
  • I'm grateful for what these young men have done to give us a good start through non-conference play and to give us a chance in every game.
  • This might be one of the best teams we will see all year. At least from the standpoint of style of play and the guys should hold their heads high knowing we went toe to toe with them.
  • The scores line won't reflect it but we got better in front of the goal all week, and despite losing our way a little bit when they put us away, we have gotten better in front of the goal.
  • I told the guys I was proud of their efforts so far and throughout the afternoon and this is what can happen when you don't finish your chances.
  • We will learn from our mistakes and be better for it and be even tougher when we get into a tight game going forward.
  • Everyone starts over at 0-0 in conference play.
The Lobos suffer their first loss of the season to move to 3-1. St. Thomas improves to 4-1.

Sully now begins conference play on the road against UT Dallas on Thursday, September 23 in Richardson.
