ALPINE, Texas - Volleyball persisted through all five sets to take home their second straight conference win in a 3-2 thriller over visiting McMurry on Saturday.
"I am so proud of this team," said head coach
Troy Canaba. "It was a total team effort. We fought hard and we never quit. We were down early in set three and fought back to make it a game. Sometimes we may not win, but we are learning to never quit."
Annika Canaba notched another triple-double after leading both sides with 18 kills and five service aces to go with 25 assists and 11 digs. It was her second triple-double of the season and it also leads the nation.

Set 1:
McMurry took an early 2-0 lead out of the gate. Sully got on the board with a service error but saw their deficit reach six after a 6-1 War Hawks answer.
The Lobos turned things around soon after with a 12-2 run.
Taryn Griner had three kills,
Mia Bella Ruiz added two and Canaba had a kill and a service ace to help take their first lead of the day and then up it to 14-10.
Sully continued to hold the lead but saw McMurry claw back to make it 22-19.
Faith Herrera then notched a service ace before a kill from
Daniella Garcia and a
Mia Bella Ruiz ace made it 24-19. The War Hawks then had an attack error to give the Lobos a 25-19 win in set one.
Set 2:
Griner opened the second set with a kill and
Loren Garcia followed for a 2-0 lead.
The Lobos held a small lead until they used a 5-0 run for a 9-3 advantage.
Mia Bella Ruiz started with a kill before the War Hawks helped with a bad set and three straight attack errors to give Sully the six-point lead.
McMurry got to within four, but the Lobos upped it to nine with back-to-back kills from
Daniella Garcia for a 16-7 score.
Herrera later had back-to-back aces before an attack error from the War Hawks made it 20-10.
Both sides scored evenly down the stretch of the second set and
Isabella Ruiz gave Sully a 25-15 set two win with a service ace.
Set 3:
McMurry came out with the first three points of the set and eventually grew their advantage to 8-2.
Three straight attack errors from the War Hawks made it 8-5, but McMurry eventually increased their lead to 21-10.
Like Canaba said, his team never quit in the third set. The Lobos went on a 10-3 run late to cut it to four.
Loren Garcia,
Daniella Garcia and Canaba each added a kill before
Isabella Ruiz notched three for a 24-20 score.
McMurry was able to stave off defeat with a kill for the final point of the set but still trailed 2-1.
Set 4:
Set four stayed razor thin through the first 13 points before McMurry took the first two-point lead of the set at 8-6.
Sully scored the next point on a
Mia Bella Ruiz kill and the set stayed within one point until a 6-1 run put the Lobos ahead 14-11. Both
Loren Garcia and Canaba struck for a pair of kills.
McMurry tied the match at 16-16 and then took a 17-16 lead before the Lobos retook it at 20-17. Canaba provided two more aces to put Sully within five of taking the match.
The War Hawks came back with the next three but an attack error put Sully ahead 21-20.
Another attack error gave the Lobos a 22-21 advantage until the War Hawks scored the next three.
An attack error got Sully back within one, but a service error gave McMurry a 25-23 win in set four.
Set 5:
Back-to-back kills from
Daniella Garcia and Canaba gave the Lobos an early 3-1 lead in the final set. They held a small advantage and eventually made it 6-2 with three straight kills. Canaba started with two in a row before one from
Isabella Ruiz put Sully up four.
After a pair War Hawks kills made it 6-4, the Lobos took command of the fifth set with a 5-1 run with a Canaba ace, two kills from Griner and one each from Canaba and
Isabella Ruiz for an 11-5 advantage.
The Lobos used a combination of McMurry errors and the clinching kill from
Daniella Garcia to take set five and the match by a 15-8 score.
Stats:
Kamrynn Caruth finished with a team-high 30 assists and added six digs.
Herrera had a team-best 21 digs.
Mia Bella Ruiz was a close second with 20.
Records:
The Lobos improve to 4-3 on the season and 2-1 in the ASC. McMurry falls to 2-4 and 1-1.
