Lobos take both ends of Saturday doubleheader for series sweep of War Hawks #SRSU | #ASCbsb | #d3b

ABILENE, Texas - Baseball picked up 20-5 and 15-12 wins on Saturday to sweep the three-game road series against McMurry.

Saturday, April 25
Game One: Lobos 20 - War Hawks 5 (7 innings)

Jorge Marquez tripled down the right field line to plate Ashton Leech to start a four-run first. Tye Lindsey later singled home Marquez before Jared Lorenz homered to center field, bringing in Lindsey for a 4-0 lead.

McMurry came back with a run in the bottom of the first for a 4-1 score.

Sully got right back to scoring in the top of the top of the second with a Marquez double that plated Tyler Tupper. Carsen Thor then tripled home Marquez and Leech for a 7-1 lead.

The War Hawks added a run in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to cut it to 7-2.

Richard Bailey added a pair of runs on a two-run shot in the top of the third for a 9-2 lead.

Isaiah Moya started on the mound and put the first zero on the board in the bottom of the third. His offense got back to it in the fourth with RBI singles by Thor, Lorenz, Isaac Aleman, and Leech for a 14-2 lead.

McMurry added another in the bottom of the fourth for a 14-3 score.

Bailey tripled home Lindsey before eventually scoring on a wild pitch in the fifth to make it 16-3.

After a scoreless fifth from Moya, Marquez's fielder's choice in the sixth scored Aleman before Thor singled home Tupper. Lorenz later walked with the bases loaded to score Marquez. Bailey finished the four-run sixth with a sacrifice fly to plate Thor for a 20-3 advantage.

The War Hawks added two in the bottom of the seventh, but the Lobos cruised to the 20-5 win in game one.

Marquez finished 3-for-6 with three runs batted in and four runs scored.

Thor, Lorenz, and Bailey each had four RBI.

Moya picked up his third win of the season after throwing 6.2 innings with six strikeouts.

Game Two: Lobos 15 - War Hawks 12

The offense stayed hot into game two with a Thor single to score Leech in the top of the first for a 1-0 lead.

McMurry tied it up in the bottom of the first with a run but quickly fell behind 2-1 in the second when Aleman brought in Matthew Wheeler on a groundout to first.

The War Hawks took their first lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second for a 3-2 lead.

Marquez led off the third with a solo home run to start a seven-run inning. After Marquez's tying shot, Wheeler later singled home Lorenz before Tristan Karels doubled in Bailey. Wheeler then scored on a wild pitch to go ahead by three. The runs kept coming when Leech singled in Karels and Aleman to lead 8-3. Tupper later scored on an error to finish the big inning for a 9-3 advantage.

McMurry pitching settled down and their offense put up one in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 10-9 lead.

Sully didn't trail for long with Tupper singling home Aleman to tie it 10-10 in the seventh. Thor later stepped in with two outs and singled home Tupper to go ahead 11-10. After a Lorenz double and Bailey walk, Wheeler singled in Thor for a 12-10 advantage.

McMurry cut it to 12-11 in the bottom of the seventh but fell behind 13-11 in the eighth when Tupper scored on a wild pitch.

The War Hawks again cut it to one with a run in the bottom of the eighth but again surrendered runs in the top of the next inning. Aleman doubled down the right field line to score Karels. Aleman advanced to third on the play due to a throwing error and eventually scored on a wild pitch for a 15-12 lead going to the bottom of the ninth.

Ian Craigie entered the game in the bottom of the eighth and stayed in for a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season in a 15-12 win in game two.

Tupper went 5-for-6 in the leadoff spot with three runs, an RBI, and a walk.

Wheeler had three hits with two runs batted in and two runs scored.

Thor, Aleman, and Karels each had two hits.

Connor Archer picked up his first win of the season in relief.

The Lobos improve to 12-18 (9-15 ASC). McMurry stands at 9-24 (5-19).

Sully concludes their regular season at home against Howard Payne with a three-game series. They'll start with a single game on Friday, April 30 before a doubleheader on Saturday, May 1.
