ALPINE, Texas - Senior
Miranda Martinez put an exclamation point on Saturday's Senior Day with a walk-off home run in the ninth inning for a 7-6 win over McMurry.
It was Sully's second walk-off in a row after
Camryn Hardin's game-winning single in Friday night's 7-6 win.
The War Hawks got things started in the top of the first with a run for a 1-0 advantage.
Camryn Hardin came around to score in the bottom of the first after
Miranda Martinez reached second on an error by the center fielder for a 1-1 tie.
Nadia Valverde then doubled home Martinez for 2-1 lead.
The lead held until McMurry plated a pair in the top of the third to go ahead 3-2.
Hardin walked to start the bottom of the third.
Annika Canaba later stepped in and hit an opposite field home run to right center for a 4-3 lead. Martinez then doubled before moving to third on a Valverde single.
Payslee Sims then came up and brought in Martinez on an RBI groundout for a 5-3 advantage.
The Lobos tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth on a Sims RBI double to right center that scored Valverde for a 6-3 score.
Jodie Vaughn was in the circle as the starter and surrendered three runs over the first five innings to keep the 6-3 lead. It was the sixth inning that flipped momentum after a three-run home run by McMurry tied the game going to the bottom of the sixth.
Both pitchers settled in and pitched scoreless through the seventh to send it to extras.
It was Martinez with one out in the bottom of the ninth that sent the Lobos home on a solo shot to left field for a 7-6 win.
Martinez finished the game 2-for-5 with the one very important RBI and three runs scored.
Valverde went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Hardin and Sims both had two hits. Sims matched Canaba for a team-high two runs batted in.
Vaughn picked up her sixth win of the season after throwing nine innings with nine strikeouts on 163 pitches.
The Lobos even their record to 12-12 (12-10 ASC). McMurry stands at 18-11 (14-10 ASC).
Martinez and
Halie Guillen were honored after the game as the two seniors on the team. Martinez played two years with the program as a pitcher and outfielder. Guillen spent four seasons with the Lobos as an outfielder.
Sully's season continues as they next travel to Brownwood for a three-game set starting with a doubleheader on Friday, April 30 against Howard Payne.
