ALPINE, Texas - McMurry held off a seventh inning rally for a 5-3 win in game one before
Camryn Hardin finished a four-run rally in game two for a 7-6 victory to split Friday's softball doubleheader at Lobo Field.
Game One: War Hawks 5 - Lobos 3
Jodie Vaughn started the game in the circle with two shutout innings for a 0-0 tie going bottom two.
Rebecca Rodriguez put the first run on the board in the second with an RBI single to center field that scored
Nadia Valverde for a 1-0 lead.
The War Hawks tied the game in the top of the third with an RBI single for a 1-1 score going bottom three.
Samantha Chavez brought in
Camryn Hardin in the bottom of the third with a single to right field for a 2-1 advantage.
It remained 2-1 until the top of the fifth when McMurry brought in a pair of runs for their first lead of the game at 3-2. They went on to score one in each of the sixth and seventh innings for a 5-2 lead going bottom seven.
The Lobos were able to load the bases in the last of the seventh but could only bring across one run on a wild pitch in a 5-3 game one loss.
Hardin went 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot with a triple, two runs scored, and a walk.
Rebecca Rodriguez also had two hits with an RBI.
Vaughn went the complete seven innings with eight strikeouts.
Game Two: Lobos 7 - War Hawks 6
The game was scoreless until McMurry got one in the second and three in the third for a 4-0 lead. The War Hawks added another two in the fifth for a 6-0 lead going bottom five.
Miranda Martinez stepped in with the bases loaded in the fifth and plated Hardin, Chavez, and Canaba to cut it to 6-3 going to the sixth.
Martinez also started on the mound and pitched a scoreless sixth inning to keep it 6-3 going to the seventh.
Danielle Gomez relieved Martinez and threw a shutout seventh inning to keep it a three-run game going to the bottom of the inning.
The Lobos started the comeback with a leadoff double by Canaba to left center. After Martinez popped out, Valverde cut it to two with a single to left center to score Canaba for a 6-4 score.
Payslee Sims and
Jodie Vaughn then hit back-to-back singles to load the bases.
Mary Villarreal then stepped in and plated Valverde with an RBI single to center field for a 6-5 game.
Heather Rios then tied the game with a single that scored Sims to make it 6-6. Hardin finished the comeback with a single to right field that scored Vaughn to complete the four-run seventh for a 7-6 win in game two.
Hardin finished 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI and a run scored.
Sims, Villarreal, and Rios each added two hits with Villarreal and Rios adding an RBI.
Gomez picked up the first win of her career with her shutout seventh inning.
Martinez went six innings with two strikeouts and no walks.
The Lobos stand at 11-12 (11-10 ASC). McMurry is 18-10 (14-9 ASC).
Sully plays their final home game of the regular season Saturday at 11:00 a.m. against McMurry in the rubber match.
