BELTON, Texas - Baseball split a Thursday road doubleheader with Mary Hardin-Baylor before falling in the Friday rubber match in Belton.
Thursday, April 1
Game One: Lobos 6 - Crusaders 2
UMHB got on the board with two unearned runs in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 lead.
It stayed 2-0 until Ashton Leach brought in
Jett Hartley on a sacrifice fly to left field to cut it to 2-1 in the top of the fifth.
Jalen Benton stepped in with one out in the seventh and tied it 2-2 on a home run to left field.
Isaiah Moya was masterful on the bump in game one. After the two unearned in the first, he pitched seven shutout innings to keep it a 2-2 tie going to the ninth.
Leech singled home
Isaac Aleman to take a 3-2 lead.
Jorge Marquez later reached on an error by the pitcher that helped score Benton to make it 4-2. Leech later scored on a wild pitch before
Tye Lindsey plated Marquez on a sacrifice fly to left field for a 6-2 lead.
Moya returned to the mound for the bottom of the ninth and retired the side in order to secure the 6-2 win.
The righty threw nine innings of three hit, no earned run ball with six strikeouts and no walks.
Benton went 3-for-5 out of the leadoff spot with two runs scored and an RBI.
Leech,
Carsen Thor, and Aleman each had two hits.
Game Two: Crusaders 5 - Lobos 4 (7 innings)
Marquez put the Lobos on the board first in the top of the first with a solo home run for a 1-0 lead.
Sam Russell pitched a shutout first inning before Lindsey scored on an Aleman single to right in the top of the second for a 2-0 lead.
UMHB scored one in the second and one in the third for a 2-2 tie that went to the fifth.
Lindsey singled home Leech to retake the lead before
Richard Bailey sent a sacrifice fly to right field to score Marquez for a 4-2 advantage in the fifth.
Russell put a zero on the board in the bottom of the fifth and the Crusaders did the same in the top of the sixth for a 4-2 score going bottom six.
UMHB was able to tie things in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of runs for a 4-4 game heading to the seventh.
The Lobos went in order in the seventh to give the Crusaders an opportunity in the bottom of the inning.
Justin Holt relieved Russell for the seventh and UMHB was able to walk it off 5-4 to split the Friday doubleheader.
Holt took the loss after throwing .1 innings and allowing a run on one hit.
Russell threw six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.
Marquez finished with two hits, two runs, and an RBI.
Aleman also had two hits with an RBI.
Friday, April 2
Game Three: Crusaders 13 - Lobos 6
UMHB plated the first three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead.
Lindsey led off the second with a solo home run to put the Lobos on the board. Bailey then tripled before Hartley grounded out to second to score Bailey for a 3-2 game. Marquez later gave Sully with lead with single that scored
Adrian Munoz and Benton for a 4-3 advantage.
The Crusaders retook the lead in the bottom of the third with six runs for a 9-4 advantage.
Bailey cut it to four in the top of the fifth with a single to plate Marquez for a 9-5 score.
UMHB again upped their lead to five with a run in the bottom of the fifth before adding another in the sixth for an 11-5 lead.
Benton singled home Aleman in the top of the eighth, but the Crusaders plated two more in the bottom of the inning for a 13-6 advantage and eventual win.
Benton and Bailey each added a pair of hits and a run scored.
Marquez had two runs batted in with a run scored and a stolen base.
The Lobos fall to 6-15 on the season and 3-12 in conference play. UMHB evens their season record to 11-11 and moves to 4-8 in the ASC.
Sully next plays host to Hardin-Simmons for a lone game on Friday, April 9.
