ALPINE, Texas - A game that looked primed for overtime ended in dramatic fashion on Saturday after McMurry broke a 1-1 tie on a penalty kick with five seconds left in regulation for a 2-1 win over the Lobos.
Arturo Madrid was recognized as the lone player suiting up for the final time in his Sul Ross career.
The War Hawks took little time to take the lead with a goal in the third minute of the game.
Shots came at a premium in the first half with Sully putting two on goal. Both were saved for a 1-0 McMurry lead at the half.
Mauricio Perez netted the equalizer in the 55th minute with an unassisted goal for a 1-1 tie.
The game remained tied and looked to be heading to overtime until a foul was called in the box on Sul Ross that gave McMurry a penalty kick. They were successful on the attempt for a 2-1 lead and the eventual win.
Sully put five of their eight shots on goal with two each coming from
Jose Luis Originales and
Jair Moreno.
Alexis Tellez played the entire 90 minutes in goal and had two saves.
Sully finishes the regular season at 2-4-1 and 2-4-1 in conference.
The Lobos now prepare for their first tournament appearance in program history as the #4 seed in the West Division.
Sully will travel to Richardson for a match against #1E UT Dallas (4-0-1) on Thursday, April 1 in the ASC Quarterfinals.
