PINEVILLE, Louisiana - Softball got out to an early lead in game three of the series, but a seven-run fourth inning led to an 11-6 loss to Louisiana College.
After a leadoff double from
Camryn Hardin,
Halie Guillen sacrifice bunted Hardin to second.
Annika Canaba then stepped in and sent a two-run home run to center field for a 2-0 lead.
Miranda Martinez made it back-to-back home runs in the first with a solo shot for a 3-0 lead.
The Wildcats were quick to answer with two in the first inning and two in the second for a 4-3 lead.
After a
Nadia Valverde walk started the top of the third,
Payslee Sims sacrificed Valverde to second before
Mary Villarreal singled to make it first and third.
Rebecca Rodriguez then singled home Valverde for a 4-4 tie. Hardin stepped in two batters later and singled home Villarreal and
Veronica Rodriguez for a 6-4 lead.
Starter
Jodie Vaughn settled down in the third inning to keep the 6-4 advantage going to the fourth.
It was the bottom of the fourth that proved to be the downfall for the Lobos after LC put up seven runs for an 11-6 lead.
The Lobos threatened with the bases loaded in the sixth but were unable to come away with a run in an eventual 11-6 final for the Wildcats.
Hardin finished 3-for-5 with two runs batted in and a run scored.
Canaba tied Hardin for a team-high two runs batted in and a run scored.
Villarreal walked a game-high three times.
Vaughn was tagged with her second loss of the season after 3.2 innings in the circle.
The bullpen of
Marley Moralez and
Leslie Munoz combined for 2.1 innings of shutout ball, allowing two hits and striking out one.
Sully falls to 6-2 on the season and 6-2 in conference play. LC stands at 8-10 and 3-3.
The Lobos next travel to Kerrville on Wednesday, March 24 for a non-conference doubleheader against Schreiner.
