ALPINE, Texas - It took two extra periods Saturday night, but the Lobos made it three straight conference wins with a 70-60 victory over visiting Concordia University.
Sully's first lead of the game came on a 4-0 answer from
Kaylee Martinez after a Concordia triple for a 4-3 lead just over two minutes into the contest.
The Tornados responded with a 6-0 run to lead 9-4.
Teresa Quintana inched the deficit to 9-7 on a triple, but Sully was quickly down five again after a CTX three-pointer not even a minute later.
Both sides went cold after that until
Ashely Roberts sank the backend of two free throw attempts to trail 12-8 at the two minute mark of the first.
Concordia added the final point of the first quarter with a free throw for a 13-8 lead heading to the second.
Ashley Nunez opened the second quarter with a layup to trail by three.
The Tornados responded with a 9-2 run to lead 22-12 midway through the second quarter.
Sully spent the remainder of the first half on a 10-2 run to trail by two at the break. Nunez started it off with another layup before
Vania Hampton followed with layup of her own. Quintana later sank a free throw that was followed by back-to-back Hampton layups for a 22-22 tie.
Concordia was able to take the lead with a pair of free throws for a 24-22 lead at the half.
Alexis Carmosino tied things up with a layup just over a minute into the third.
The Tornadoes answered quickly with a jumper but found themselves soon down five after a 7-0 run by the Lobos. Hampton accounted for all seven points with two free throws, a triple, and finally a layup for a 31-26 lead at the midway point of the third.
Concordia was able to narrow the gap, outscoring the Lobos 6-2 down the stretch for a 33-32 Sully lead heading to the fourth.
Hampton continued to stay hot with a layup to start fourth quarter scoring to lead by three.
After CTX tied the game with a triple, Roberts sank a pair of free throws to go up two.
The Tornados took the lead with another triple, but Martinez answered with a jumper to go back ahead by one.
Concordia tied things with a free throw and later took a 41-39 lead on a jumper with under five minutes left.
Carmosino then stepped to the line and hit both free throws to tie the game.
CTX didn't keep it tied for long with a triple after a timeout with under 4:00 left.
Hampton and Quintana then sank back-to-back jumpers for a 45-44 lead.
This proved to be a back and forth quarter as the Tornados retook the lead on a three-pointer, but the Lobos quickly tied it up on a Hampton layup with two minutes left and eventually the lead on a Carmosino bucket with 25 seconds remaining.
CTX proved formidable throughout with a game-tying jumper to send it to overtime.
Carmosino started OT with a layup for a 51-49 lead.
Concordia answered with a triple for yet another lead change.
Martinez found the bottom of the net with four minutes remaining for a 53-52 advantage before Carmosino put the Lobos ahead by three with a jumper.
The Tornados again tied the game with just under two minutes left on a triple for a 55-55 score.
Carmosino again put Sully ahead late with a jumper at 1:16.
CTX later went to the free throw line and hit the first of two. Their second was no good and gave the Lobos a chance to widen the small one-point lead.
After a missed layup from Quintana, the Tornados had a chance to take the lead and potentially the win. A Martinez foul sent the Tornados to the free throw line with three seconds left down one. They were only able to convert the second free throw and the game went to double overtime with a 57-57 score.
Carmosino again opened an overtime period with a bucket for a 59-57 lead.
After a defensive stop,
Keona Loftis hit one of two from the free throw line for a 60-57 advantage.
Quintana later went to the free throw line and knocked down a pair to go ahead five with 3:22 left.
CTX stopped the quick run with a free throw, but soon trailed by 12 after a 8-0 answer from the Lobos. Quintana was responsible for six of the eight points after going 4-of-4 from the free throw line and also converting a layup. Carmosino had the other two points with a pair of free throws.
Concordia hit a late jumper, but were outscored 13-3 in the second overtime period for a 70-60 Sully victory.
Hampton finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds, both good for a game-high.
Carmosino added 18 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double with nine.
Quintana was also in double digits with 15 points and had six rebounds.
Kaylee Martinez boarded 11 and had eight points.
The three-game win streak puts the Lobos at 7-9 on the season and 5-2 in conference play. Concordia drops to 2-4 and 2-4.
The Lobos next travel to Abilene this Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. tip against Hardin-Simmons.
