Alexis Carmosino went off for a 14-point, 14-rebound performance on Thursday, but the Lobos were bested 78-61 against Hardin-Simmons in Abilene.
The Cowgirls started strong with an 8-0 run over the first 1:33 of the first period to set the tone.
Keona Loftis put a stop to that with a triple at 8:05 for an 8-3 score.
Both sides traded baskets the remainder of the first quarter, finished with a triple by
Vania Hampton for a 16-10 HSU lead heading to the second.
Teresa Quintana sank a pair of free throws at 9:43 for the first points of the second quarter and a 16-12 score.
The Cowgirls took their first double-digit lead with a small 4-1 run for a 23-13 advantage with 6:14 left in the first half.

Vania Hampton answered with back-to-back jumpers to cut it to six at 4:28.
Down nine at 2:16, Hampton and Quintana sank back-to-back triples to cut it to 31-28 with 1:29 left before the break.
HSU outscored the Lobos 4-1 the remainder of the first half for a 35-29 lead heading to intermission.
Kaylee Martinez opened third quarter scoring with a pair of free throws to trail 35-31 just 40 seconds into the second half.
HSU's lead fluctuated between five and seven points over the next 4:03 before taking an eight-point lead at 5:17 and eventually a 54-43 lead for the Cowgirls at 1:35.
Sully was able to cut it to seven with 16 seconds left in the third on a Quintana layup but went to the fourth down 56-47.
Carmosino started the final quarter with a pair of free throws before Hampton made a layup for a five-point game with 7:28 remaining.
It stayed within single digits over the next 3:54 until the Cowgirls went up 10 at 3:34 and eventually 67-55 at 3:24 to finish a 6-0 run.
HSU held the double-digit lead through the remainder of the game and took it 78-61 over the Lobos.
Carmosino's 14 rebounds were good for a game-high.
Hampton scored a team-high 17 and added seven rebounds.
Martinez was also in double digits with 11 points.
Sully falls to 7-10 on the season and 5-3 in ASC play. Hardin-Simmons improves to 12-3 and 7-2.
The Lobos remain in Abilene for an 11:00 p.m. tip against the McMurry War Hawks on Saturday.
