Lobos open season with Saturday sweep of Ozarks #SRSU | #ASCsb | #d3sb

CLARKSVILLE, AR - Some inclement weather and an extra day before their season opener didn't deter the Lobos with 17-4 and 12-1 wins against University of the Ozarks on Saturday.

Game One: Lobos 17 - Eagles 4

The game remained scoreless through the first three innings until the Lobos brought the bats alive in the top of the fourth for eight runs.

Miranda Martinez started with a bases loaded walk to bring home Annika Canaba for a 1-0 lead.

Marley Moralez then stepped in and sent an RBI single to left center that scored Payslee Sims to make it 2-0.

Mary Villarreal followed Moralez with an RBI single to right field to scored Nadia Valverde to go up 3-0.

Starter pitcher Jodie Vaughn provided the third straight single, this time to right field to score Martinez for a 4-0 lead.

This led to a pitching change for the Eagles, but the offense for the Lobos did not cease.

Camryn Hardin stepped in and singled through the right side to score Moralez to make it 5-0.

Halie Guillen was then hit by a pitch. Villarreal came around to make it 6-0

Two batters later, Sims sent a sacrifice fly to right that scored Samantha Chavez for a 7-0 score.

The Eagles matched Sully's top of the sixth with a pair of their own in the bottom of the inning for a 10-3 score going to the seventh.

A seven run cushion didn't stop the offense from generating runs throughout their first game of the season. The Lobos went on to add seven in the top of the seventh.

After Hardin walked and Guillen was hit by her second pitch of the game, Canaba hit a three-run shot to center field for a 13-3 score.

Martinez later cleared the right field wall with Sims on first for a two-run home run to make it 15-3.
