Hampton goes for 30 and 15 in 76-65 win over Lady Jackets to move to 2nd in ASC West Division #SRSU | #ASChoops | #d3hoops

ALPINE, Texas - Vania Hampton scored a career-high 30 points and added 15 rebounds in a 75-65 win Thursday night over Howard Payne at the Gallego Center.

Down 2-0 out of the gate, Vania Hampton tied things with a jumper before Kaylee Martinez gave the Lobos their first lead on a triple at 6:41.

The Lady Jackets quickly cut it to one but soon fell behind seven on a 7-0 Sully run. Hampton and Keona Loftis started with made layups before Ashley Nunez connected from beyond the arc for a 12-4 advantage at 2:29.

HPU answered with a triple but was met with a 5-0 run for a 17-7 lead for the Lobos with 56 seconds left in the first quarter. The first three points came on free throws with two from Loftis and one from Cassie Hogan. Hampton continued her quick offensive start with a jumper for the 10-point lead.

Sully eventually took a 19-9 lead on a late Alexis Carmosino layup to close out scoring in the first.

The Lady Jackets opened the second quarter with a three-point play before Hampton answered with a layup to go back up nine.

HPU eventually trimmed their deficit to four, causing a timeout from the Lobos. Cassie Hogan sank a triple out of the timeout before Martinez converted a layup for a 28-19 lead at 4:54.

The Lobos again saw their lead shrink to four but finished the first half on a 12-0 run for a 40-24 lead at the break. Hampton started the answer with the first five on a jumper and a three-pointer. Carmosino later added a jumper before Hampton finished the run with a layup and another triple for a 16-point lead at halftime.

Howard Payne came out of the half with a quick 8-0 run to cut it to 40-32 at 7:52.

Hogan stopped the run with a jumper before Nunez connected on a triple for a 13-point lead at 5:27.

Now up 10, Sully added their next five points from the free throw line with one from Ashely Roberts and two from Hampton and Loftis for a 50-35 lead at the 3:30 mark.

The Lobos later upped their lead to 17 on a pair of free throws from Loftis but went to the fourth ahead 57-45 after the Lady Jackets finished the third on a 5-0 run.

HPU was able to cut it to eight with a quick 4-0 answer to start the fourth.

Hampton and Roberts came back with a triple and a layup to stretch the lead back to 13 at 7:38.

Sully held at least a 10-point lead until the Lady Jackets used a 6-0 run to make it 66-60 at 4:46.

Hampton was responsible for the next five for the Lobos after going 5-of-6 from the free throw line over the next 2:06 for a 71-60 lead.

HPU trimmed it back seven with a quick 4-0 answer but were outscored 5-1 the remainder of the way for a 76-65 win for the Lobos.

Hampton added four assists to her 30-15 night in what was her seventh double-double of the season.

Loftis, Carmosino, Roberts, and Nunez each finished with eight points. Carmosino came down with eight rebounds.

The Lobos improve to 8-11 and 6-4 in ASC play. HPU falls to 7-6 and 4-3.

With the win, Sully current sits in second place in the ASC West Division standings with two conference games to play.

They'll next travel to Brownwood on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. rematch with Howard Payne. This game will be non-conference.
