RICHARDSON, Texas - A lopsided second quarter for women's hoops was the difference in Saturday's 80-70 loss to UT Dallas.
"Playing against the #22 team in the country definitely shows us what we need to work on," said head coach
Katie Novak. "We had good fight and good moments, and this game helps us get ready for more tough games down the road."
First Quarter
The Lobos opened the game with a 5-2 run with a layup from
Alyssa Ramlochan and a three-pointer from
Alexis Carmosino. The Comets eventually took a three-point lead before Sully finished the quarter with a 7-0 run for a 14-10 advantage.
Second Quarter
UTD stormed ahead in the second quarter, outscoring the Lobos 26-8 for a 36-22 lead at the half.
Third Quarter
The Comets upped their lead to as many as 19 in the third quarter before Sully finished the third with a 13-1 run to cut it to 53-46 going to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
Down 10, Carmosino hit a pair of free throws and then a triple to cut it to five early in the fourth. UTD answered with a 9-0 run and held a double-digit lead until
Vania Hampton's layup with under a minute left made it 71-63. The Lobos got as close as six with a triple from
Teresa Quintana, but the Comets picked up the 80-70 win.
Stats
Carmosino scored a team-high 20 points and also led the Lobos with six rebounds.
Quintana finished with 16 points and four assists.
Ashley Nunez shot 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, scoring 13 points with three assists and two steals.
The Lobos fall to 5-4 and 1-3 in conference. UTD moves to 5-1 and 4-0.
Sully remains on the road, next traveling to Brownwood to take on Howard Payne on Thursday, December 9.
