Lobos' season ends in ASC Semifinal loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor #SRSU | #ASCvb | #d3vb

BELTON, Texas - Volleyball's most successful season in 17 years came to an end Friday night in a 3-0 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor in the American Southwest Conference Semifinals.

"What a season!" said head coach Troy Canaba. "I am so proud of this team and we have set the foundation to grow. This team is special in so many ways. History in the making!"

Set 1:
The Crusaders opened with a 3-1 run before Annika Canaba and Mia Bella Ruiz tied the set with back-to-back kills. UMHB then had an attack error to give the Lobos their first lead at 4-3.

UMHB answered with an 8-1 run for an 11-5 advantage.

Sully cut it to two with a 6-2 response that featured a kill each from Canaba, Loren Garcia, Taryn Griner, Kamrynn Caruth and a Mia Bella Ruiz service ace.

The Crusaders eventually went up six and held at least a four-point lead until Sully used a 4-0 run to cut it to 22-21. Canaba had two kills with Caruth and Isabella Ruiz each providing one. After a bad set gave UMHB the next point, Caruth notched a kill before a Cru attack error for a 23-23 tie.

UMHB went on to score the final two of the set for a 25-23 win in set one.

Set 2:
Canaba opened set two with a kill before an attack error made it 2-0.

Tied 2-2, Canaba notched another kill to start a small 3-1 answer to lead 5-3.

UMHB then took a 7-5 lead before a 4-1 response put Sully back ahead at 9-8. It was finished with back-to-back kills from Daniella Garcia and Canaba.

The Crusaders scored the next three before the Lobos did the same with a Canaba kill and two straight aces from Faith Herrera for a 12-11 lead.

A service error by Sully and an ace from UMHB gave The Crusaders a 13-12 advantage that quickly turned into a 15-13 lead for the Lobos with a kill from Canaba, a UMHB ball handling error and Caruth ace.

The Crusaders tied it up at 16-16, but the Lobos continued to fight to take the lead back at 17-16 and 18-17. UMHB retook the lead at 19-18 and finished the set on an 8-1 run to take it 25-19.

Set 3:
Canaba started with two straight kills before a Caruth ace made it 3-0.

UMHB came back with the next four until Canaba put a stop to their answer with a kill for a 4-4 tie.

Sully found themselves down 9-5 but responded with the next three on kills from Canaba and Mia Bella Ruiz to go with a bad set by the Crusaders to cut it to 9-8.

UMHB scored the next five before a Griner kill and back-to-back aces from Isabella Ruiz followed to keep the Lobos within three.

Sully soon got it to one with the help of a pair of Daniella Garcia kills and another from Griner to make it 16-15.

UMHB answered with four of the next five and held at least a two-point lead the rest of the way in a 25-20 win in set three to complete the sweep.

Canaba finished with a game-high 17 kills with six assists and two digs.

Caruth led the Lobos with 24 assists, adding six digs, three kills and two aces.

Mia Bella Ruiz finished with a team-high 14 digs with Herrera one behind her with 13.

Sully's best season since 2004 finishes with a 15-10 overall record.
