KERRVILLE, Texas - Women's hoops finished the ASC/SCAC Crossover on Sunday with a 77-74 overtime loss to Schreiner.
"It was a battle throughout the game," said head coach
Katie Novak. "We hurt ourselves missing a lot of free throws and layups. It's a good game to learn from and prepare us to face some tough conference opponents this week."
First Quarter
Sully fell behind 5-0 before
Vania Hampton and
Alexis Carmosino answered with back-to-back buckets for a 5-4 score. The Lobos trailed again by one at 7-6 after a
Cassie Hogan layup but couldn't get back within two in a first quarter that ended with a 22-17 Schreiner lead.
Second Quarter
Keona Loftis started the second with a triple to cut it to two and Hogan later converted a layup for a 24-24 tie. Sully's first lead came at 29-28 on a free throw from
Alyssa Ramlochan. Now tied 28-28, Loftis sank another three for a 31-28 advantage. The lead shifted six more times with the Lobos finishing the half on a 4-0 run for a 39-38 advantage at the break.
Third Quarter
Sully started the third with an 8-2 run to lead 47-40. Hampton added the first six before Ramlochan finished with a layup for the seven-point lead. Schreiner chipped away at the deficit and retook the lead at 53-51. Loftis later drained another three-pointer with under two minutes left in the quarter for a 55-53 lead that went to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
Hampton opened the fourth with a jumper to start a 7-1 run for a 62-54 lead. The Lobos continued to hold a slim lead into the final minute of the game, but the Mountaineers scored the final five to force overtime with a 68-68 score.
Overtime
Schreiner scored the first bucket before
Kayla James made a free throw and then a layup for a 71-70 lead. The Mountaineers then responded with a layup to lead by one. Hampton later hit a jumper for a 73-72 advantage with under a minute left, but Schreiner finished the game on a 5-1 run to take it 77-74 in overtime.
Hampton led the way with a game-high 22 points on 11-of-21 shooting and added 11 rebounds.
Carmosino was also in double digits with 14 points and had seven boards.
Loftis finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
The Lobos stand at 5-2 on the season and remain 1-1 in conference. Schreiner improves to 3-4.
Sully now shifts gears back to the conference season against LeTourneau on December 2 in Longview.
