ALPINE, Texas - Women's hoops finished the Sul Ross Fall Classic with a 2-0 record after a 78-52 win Sunday over Texas Lutheran.
"I'm proud of a solid team effort today," said head coach
Katie Novak. "We shared the basketball well and are starting to learn to play together more each time we step on the court."
First Quarter
Alexis Carmosino set the tempo early with a jumper and a layup for an early 4-0 lead. TLU answered back with a jumper but soon fell behind 10-2 after back-to-back triples from Loftis. Sully's largest lead of the quarter came on another triple from
Keona Loftis for a 19-7 lead that went to the second at 19-9.
Second Quarter
Carmosino opened the second quarter with a layup to go ahead 12. The Lobos continued to hold a double-digit lead and upped it to 18 on a
Cassie Hogan layup as time expired for a 39-21 advantage at the half.
Third Quarter
The Bulldogs cut it to 14 three times before Hogan hit a triple and
Vania Hampton made a layup for a 48-29 lead. Their largest advantage of the third came after a 6-0 run with four from Hogan and two from
Kayla James for a 57-34 lead. TLU finished the third with a free throw to trail by 22 heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
Carmosino started a 6-0 run late in the fourth with a jumper and a layup.
Lauren Lusk then finished it with a jumper for a 68-43 lead. Sully's largest margin of the game came in the final seconds with a
Caitlyn Corley layup for a 78-52 final.
Carmosino finished with a game-high 18 points on 9-of-15 shooting. She added seven rebounds and two steals.
Hogan scored 12 points with two rebounds and a steal.
Loftis has 11 points, shooting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. She had four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Hampton boarded a game-high nine rebounds with eight points and three assists.
The Lobos come out of the Fall Classic with a 4-1 record on the season. TLU stands at 2-4.
Sully is back in action on Saturday, November 27 for the start of the ASC/SCAC Crossover against University of St. Thomas (TX) in Kerrville.
