Alexis Carmosino led the game with 15 points, including the final two for the Lobos, to help guide Sully to a 58-56 win over Texas Lutheran.
"I'm proud of the way we battled tonight against a tough TLU squad," said head coach
Katie Novak. "It wasn't always pretty, but the team played their hearts out and played together. Learning to play with confidence in close games early in the season will help us down the road."
First Quarter
The Lobos erased a quick 2-0 deficit with a 6-0 run for their first lead of the game.
Marley Rokas started with a triple before
Vania Hampton sank one the next time down the floor for the 6-2 advantage. Rokas upped the lead to five with a jumper to make it 10-5, but TLU finished the first with a 7-2 answer for a 12-12 tie going to the second.
Second Quarter
Lauren Lusk opened the second with a pair of free throws and
Alexis Carmosino followed with a layup for a 16-12 lead. Five lead changes followed with the Bulldogs taking a slim 28-26 advantage to the half.
Third Quarter
TLU stretched their lead to five with a 5-2 start to the third. They held the advantage until a 7-1 run with a triple from
Teresa Quintana, a pair of free throws from Carmosino and layup from Lusk put the Lobos ahead 41-40 . Each side held another lead before it went to the fourth tied 44-44.
Fourth Quarter
The Bulldogs opened with a 5-1 run but lost the lead after a 7-2 run put the Lobos ahead 53-51. Quintana started with a triple before a Hampton layup and Carmosino jumper. Eventually a clutch pair of late free throws from Carmosino put the Lobos ahead by four as they held the lead the rest of the way in a 58-56 win.
Carmosino's game-high 15 points came with an impressive 7-of-8 shooting from the line. She added five rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Hampton scored 13 with four rebounds and three steals.
Alyssa Ramlochan led the game with eight rebounds and added six points.
The Lobos even their season record to 1-1 and remain 0-1 in conference play. TLU is now 2-2 on the season.
Sully returns to conference play on Thursday, November 18 against Howard Payne at the Gallego Center.
