BROWNWOOD, Texas - Women's soccer erased a pair of one-goal deficits but fell 3-2 in Friday's conference match against Howard Payne.
In his post game comments, head coach
John Dominguez said "Rome is being built."
The Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 lead at 6:42 but didn't hold the advantage for long.
Britney Berumen netted her first goal of the season at 8:20 off an assist from
Nuvia Guillen for a 1-1 tie.
HPU again took the lead with a goal at 29:42 for a 2-1 score that went to the half.
At 59:54, Guillen setup
Aylin Pereyra's third goal of the season for a 2-2 tie.
The tie stretched all the way to 79:15 when the Yellow Jackets took their third lead of the day and this time held it for the 3-2 win over the Lobos.
Sully totaled 12 shots on the day with seven on goal.
Berumen led the way for the Lobos with five shots and four on goal.
Goalkeeper
Alitzel Ybarra played the entire game and finished with nine saves.
Sully falls to 1-11 and concludes conference play at 0-10. HPU finished 11-5-1 and 6-3-1.
The Lobos will conclude their season on Saturday with a non-conference contest at 6:00 p.m. against LeTourneau in Longview.
