ALPINE, Texas - Luis Gonzalez and Pablo Herrera netted the final two of the game to lift men's soccer over LeTourneau for their first conference win of the season in a 2-1 final.

LeTourneau's Christian Hunter capitalized off a pass from Chino Rojas at 38:11 to give the YellowJackets an early 1-0 lead.

Luis Gonzalez needed little time to counter and found the back of the net at 40:59 to even the score at 1-1.

Sul Ross controlled the second half outpacing LETU five to one in shots. Of those five shots, none were more important than Pablo Herrera's header off an assist from Xavier Russell at 75:04 to give Sully a 2-1 lead that would never go away.

The Lobos allowed just two shots on goal the entire match, setting the best mark of the season. Goalkeeper Alexis Tellez went all 90 minutes for the Lobos and recorded one save.

FROM COACH E:
  • It was a good day for sure. The boys worked really hard all year to be in this position. I'm really proud of them for sticking with it and sticking together.
  • As I've mentioned, we've grown a lot as a program and the young men showcased it on the field today when it mattered against a tough opponent and in a difficult circumstance.
  • LeTourneau is a tough team and a tournament team. That's where we want to be with them. They made us earn it, credit to them. I told the team that it would be difficult but worth it. We gained that knowledge today.
  • Alexis Tellez and the back line were solid throughout. I'm extremely grateful for the leadership of Jose Luis Originales and Alan Hernandez all year and especially today in helping us close this one out after the game-winner.
  • It was a little rocky there at the end, but we will take it. Luis Gonzalez gave us a spark and he and Pablo were quality for us going forward.
  • Everyone contributed today. Edgar Caro was a rock in the back along with Tony. We got Ryan back and him and DG were there for us when we needed them.
  • We will need everyone ready again tomorrow if we want to send our seniors out the right way.
Sully improves to 4-7 (1-6 ASC). LeTourneau drops to 7-8 (3-5 ASC).

The Lobos return to the field on Saturday, October 23 at 3:30 p.m. for senior night action against East Texas Baptist.
