Lobos fall 66-57 in Friday bout with Millsaps College #SRSU | #ASChoops | #d3hoops

JACKSON, Mississippi - Lobos came up short Friday against Millsaps College in a 66-57 road loss.

It was a quick turnaround after yesterday's win against the Belhaven Blazers that resulted in the Lobos falling to the Majors of Millsaps College.

The Lobos faced foul trouble all afternoon totaling 22 compared to the 13 committed by the Majors. This maligned RS-Sophomore Vania Hampton especially who tallied 5 fouls by the end of the game. This kept her on the bench for most of the contest with only 19 minutes of court time. Caitlyn Corley and Cassie Hogan both ended with 4.

The Majors came out with a strong first quarter shooting 63% from the field while Sully managed only 36%. That trend would continue over the course of the game with the Lobos only outshooting in the third at 50% to 31% and manage to win that quarter. Other than that, they were out shot and out scored in three other quarters. However, it was still an incredibly close contest.

Rebounding was a deciding factor. The Lobos were pushed off the glass 44-19 including 17 offensive rebounds from the Majors. Vania Hampton's foul troubles seriously hurt the rebounding efforts throughout the game. It was a team effort by the Majors to control the boards as three players recorded six total rebounds, two with four, and leading scorer Dia Fortenberry accompanied her 24 points with five rebounds.

For the Lobos, Alexis Carmosino had 16 points on an efficient 6-12 including going 2-3 from three followed by Cassie Hogan who despite the foul troubles ended up with 15 points.

With the postponement of the game against Louisiana College in Pineville, Sully returns to Alpine with a 3-7 record and will wait for their bout with Hardin-Simmons at the Gallego Center at 5:30 p.m on January 14.
