AUSTIN- Women's basketball dropped a 78-56 contest Saturday to Concordia University as the Tornados celebrated their seniors.
Sully took an early lead on a
Kensi Parker free throw followed by a
Chandre Nunez jumper for a 3-0 advantage just 26 seconds into action.
The Tornados answered with a 6-0 run to lead 6-3 at 7:19.
The Lady Lobos used the next 3:30 on an 8-3 run to retake the lead.
Maria Maldonado,
Chandre Nunez, and
Ashley Nunez all hit jumpers before
Jackie Saucedo sank a pair of free throws for an 11-9 score at 3:49 in the first.
The first quarter saw one last run as Concordia finished on an 11-2 run to lead 20-12 heading to the second.
The Tornados got their advantage to as many as 12 in the second quarter before
Jasmine Valdez and
Jocelyne Roque's back-to-back layups narrowed it to eight with 1:08 left in the first half. Concordia finished the half with a late three for a 35-24 lead at the break.
Valdez started the third on with a layup to cut it to single digits. The Tornados then scored five straight before Sully responded with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit in half. Chandre and
Ashley Nunez scored four and three respectively to make it a seven-point game with 5:29 left in the third quarter.
Ashley Nunez helped bring the Lady Lobos within single digits again with her own 5-0 run to trail 46-38 with 2:29 left before the fourth.
Concordia finished the third on a 9-1 run to lead by 16 heading to the final quarter.
The closest Sully came again was 14 as the Tornados sent their seniors out with a 78-56 win in their final home game.
Ashley Nunez finished with a team-high 15 points and added four rebounds.
Chandre Nunez notched a double-double with 12 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, and four steals.
Saucedo came close to a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds.
The Lady Lobos fall to 5-16 on the year and 3-9 in ASC play. Concordia moves to 9-12 and 6-6.
Sully next plays host to McMurry this Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. tip at the Gallego Center.
