Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dixon drops 22 and 12 as Lobos lasso Cowboys 75-65 for seventh straight win #SRSU | #BrandEm | #ASChoops

ALPINE- Logan Dixon and B.J. Hollis totaled more than half of Sully's offensive output Saturday as the Lobos erased an eight-point halftime deficit to win 75-65 over Hardin-Simmons at the Gallego Center.

Dixon finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds, both good for a game-high. Hollis added 20 points and four rebounds.

Trailing 6-2 early, Dixon went on his own 7-0 run to lead 9-6 with 14:29 left in the first half.

The Lobos again led by three at 11-8, but HSU used a 7-0 run over the next 1:37 to go up 15-11.

Hollis was fouled on a made layup and hit the resulting free throw for a three-point play to cut the deficit to 17-16 at 10:55.

The Cowboys controlled the pace of the game for the remainder of the first half by never letting their lead get to within three and took a 39-31 advantage to the break.

Hollis started the second half with a triple for the start of a 7-2 run. Licon added a jumper after HSU answered with one of their own. Dixon then hit the first of a pair of free throw attempts and finished the run with a triple to trail 44-41 at 15:45.

The Cowboys responded with four of their own to go back up seven before a Jezreel Griffin free throw and Julian Paredes triple brought it back to three with 13:05 left.

HSU had an answer in the first 10 minutes of the second half as a 7-0 run put them ahead 10 with 11:54 remaining.

Sully proved to be just as formidable in that department with a 7-0 answer of their own to trail 55-52 at 10:11. Dixon added the first four with a layup and two free throws before Hollis sank a triple.

After a layup put the Cowboys back up five, Hollis answered with a three-pointer to cut it to two. Hollis later went to the line for three free throws and sank the final two to tie the game 57-57 with 7:54 left.

Dixon stepped to the line 1:18 later and sank two free throws to give the Lobos their first advantage since leading 11-8 at 13:38 of the first half.

HSU tied the game on their next possession but quickly fell behind 66-59 after an 8-0 Sully run. Licon broke the tie with a triple, Dixon made a layup next time down the floor, and Licon finished the streak with a layup of his own to lead by seven with 4:21 left.

The defense clamped down from there and never let the Cowboys get to within five before doubling that in a 75-65 win.

Licon and Cailen Bond finished in double digits with 10 points apiece. Bond also finished with a game-high six steals.

Sul Ross improves to 15-8 on the year, 11-2 in conference play, and sports a seven-game winning streak. HSU falls to 10-13 and 6-8.

The Lobos will next play host to Concordia this Thursday at the Gallego Center with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
