ALPINE- A down third quarter for the Lady Lobos ended up being the difference in a 79-64 loss to Howard Payne Saturday at the Gallego Center.
Sully took their first lead of the game at 9:25 on a Martinez jumper to go up 2-1.
After a small 4-0 HPU run, the Lady Lobos responded with an 10-0 run for a 12-5 lead.
Jocelyne Roque scored six of the first eight and
Jackie Saucedo finished the run with two free throws for the seven-point lead at 5:07.
The Lady Jackets finished the first quarter on a 7-2 run for a 14-14 score heading to the second.
HPU opened the second with another 7-2 run to lead 21-16 at 7:00.
Sully came right back with an 8-2 run to retake the lead. Martinez and Saucedo sank triples on back-to-back possessions and Martinez later knocked down a pair of free throws for a 24-23 advantage with 4:59 left.

Kensi Parker jumper later put the Lady Lobos ahead by three on a layup at 2:34 for their largest lead of the second.
Maria Maldonado finished first half scoring with two free throws with 22 seconds left for a 32-31 lead at the break.
The Lady Jackets broke the game open in the third quarter by outscoring the Sully 27-13 to take a 13-point lead to the fourth.
HPU ballooned their lead to 23 in the final quarter before settling on a 79-64 win over the Lady Lobos.
Saucedo finished tied for a game-high with 13 points and added seven rebounds.
Roque and Martinez each finished with 11 points while Parker was also in double figures with 10 and had a team-high nine rebounds.
Sully falls to 5-14 on the season and 3-7 in conference play. The Lady Jackets improve to 8-11 and 4-6.
The Lady Lobos next hit the road this Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. meeting with Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.
