ALPINE- Men's basketball trailed for a total of 47 seconds Saturday as head coach
Clif Carroll unloaded the bench in an 89-53 home win over Howard Payne.
Down 3-0 after HPU's first possession,
Tristen Licon evened the game with a triple at 19:03 to start an 11-0 run.
Jake Lopez gave Sully their first lead with a steal and coast-to-coast layup 21 seconds later for a 5-3 lead. Hollis and Licon then drained back-to-back triples for an 11-3 advantage.
The Lobos soon embarked on another 11-0 run after the Yellow Jackets drained a three.
Logan Dixon and
Cailen Bond each scored four while
Aaron Anderson finished the scoring spurt with a triple to lead 22-6 at 13:50.
Sully extended their lead into the twenties on a Lopez jumper at 5:09 and eventually took a 24-point lead, 53-29, to the break.
The Lobos offense came out on fire in the second half with a 12-0 run to lead by 36 with 16:59 remaining. They shot four-of-five during the stretch with seven from
Cailen Bond.
Sully's largest lead of the game came at the conclusion of a 10-0 run with 8:23 left.
Cole Avery started with a three-pointer.
Julian Paredes then added five on back-to-back possessions before
Giles Gilliam's layup put the Lobos ahead 86-40.
HPU outscored the Lobos 13-3 the rest of the way, but Sully still came away with the 89-53 win.
B.J. Hollis finished with a game-high 16 points and tied Avery for a game-high seven rebounds.
Bond, Licon, and Avery scored 14, 12, and 11 respectively.
Dixon spread the love in this one with a game-high eight assists.
Fifteen different Lobos saw action with thirteen registering points.
The Lobos move to 11-8 on the year and 8-2 in the ASC. Howard Payne falls to 1-18 and 0-10.
Sully now heads back on the road next week. They'll tangle with Mary Hardin-Baylor Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. tip in Belton.
