Vania Hampton followed up last night's double-double with her second straight, but the Lobos fell short Wednesday in a 77-54 road loss to Hardin-Simmons.
Hampton finished with a team-high 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
Hampton put the Lobos up 2-0 with a layup for the first score of the game and a 2-0 lead 58 seconds into the game.
HSU responded with an 8-0 run before
Keona Loftis put a stop to that with a jumper for an 8-4 score at 6:04.
After a jumper from the Cowgirls, Loftis connected from beyond the arc to cut it to three at 4:07.
HSU spent the remainder of the first quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 23-9 lead to the second.
Ashley Nunez started second quarter scoring with a layup at 9:13. She was fouled on the make and hit the free throw to cut it to 11.
After the Cowgirls put up the next four points,
Alexis Carmosino connected on a jumper before
Teresa Quintana scored the next four with a pair of free throws and a jumper to trail 30-18 with 3:32 left in the first half.
HSU scored the next four before the Lobos scored the last four of the half for a 34-22 Cowgirls lead heading to the break.
Quarter three started with an HSU triple, but Carmosino and Hampton erased that with a free throw and jumper respectively to bring it back to 12 at 8:49.
The Cowgirls would see their largest lead of the third at 3:56 after a 13-6 run for a 50-31 lead.
Sully was able to use the rest of the quarter for a 10-4 run to cut it to 13 heading to the fourth.
Kaylee Martinez started with a pair of free throws before Hampton connected on a triple. After an HSU jumper, Carmosino added the next three with a free throw and later a layup. Quintana finished the quarter with a jumper for a 54-41 score.
The Cowgirls opened the fourth with a triple, but saw that lead trimmed to 12 on a pair of free throws from Martinez and a layup from Hampton to make it 57-45 at 8:31.
HSU was able to pad their lead over the next 5:54 with an 18-2 run to lead 75-47 with 2:37 remaining.
The Lobos finished strong over the final minutes of the game with a 7-2 run but ultimately fell 77-54.
Carmosino finished with 12 points to go with five rebounds and two steals.
Loftis added nine points and a game-high three steals.
Sully falls to 1-4 on the season. HSU improves to 5-0.
The Lobos are now off until the DCC Holiday Classic in Dallas. They will play three games in three days starting December 29 against Dallas Christian.
