Lady Lobos nab first conference W with 63-59 OT win over Lady Wildcats #SRSU | #BrandEm | #ASChoops

ALPINE- It took five extra minutes, but the Lady Lobos picked up their first conference win of the season with a 63-59 overtime edging of Louisiana College Thursday at the Gallego Center.

The Lady Wildcats put the first six points on the board before Maria Maldonado's triple with 5:19 remaining in the first cut the deficit to three.

Chandre Nunez scored the final six points of the quarter for Sully. Her jumper at 2:26 gave the Lady Lobos their first lead of the game, 11-10. A layup on the next possession made it 13-10. Nunez with 13 seconds left hit a triple to break a tie and send the Lady Lobos to the second with a 16-13 lead.

Sully opened the second with a 5-0 run from Maldonado. After nearly three scoreless minutes, she was fouled on a converted layup and sank the free throw for a 19-13 lead. She later hit a jumper to put the Lady Lobos up five.

LC cut the lead to four before Nunez scored the final four of the quarter on a jumper and a layup for a 27-19 lead at the half.

Maldonado's layup started third quarter scoring for Sully's first double-digit lead of the game.

The Wildcats chipped away over the next 5:44 with a 15-6 run for a slim 35-34 Lady Lobo lead with 3:16 left in the third.

Both sides traded free throws down the stretch and Sully went to the fourth with a 37-36 advantage.

Kensi Parker started the third with a layup. Teresa Quintana hit a jumper on the next possession and Parker later converted another layup for a 6-0 run and 43-36 lead with 7:59 left.

After an LC bucket, Martinez and Quintana combined for a 5-0 run to put the Lady Lobos back up 11 with 6:02 left.

The Lady Wildcats spent the second half of the final quarter on a 13-2 run to tie things 51-51 with 43 seconds left.

Quintana gave Sully a 54-51 lead on a three-pointer with 15 seconds left for what looked like the win. LC went to the free throw line with three seconds left and the same score., After missing the first, LC intentionally missed the second and the ball was tipped out for a game-tying three from Christina Canale as time expired to send the game to overtime.

Nunez started OT scoring with a jumper for a 56-54 lead.

The Lady Wildcats sank a three on their next possession for their first lead since the first quarter.

A Maldonado jumper gave the Lady Lobos the lead again and Nunez later hit two free throws for a 60-57 lead with 2:57 left.

LC cut it to 60-59 Sully with just over three seconds left but Nunez hit two free throws and Jackie Saucedo made one of two for a 63-59 overtime win.

Nunez led all scorers with 21 and had a second team-best nine rebounds. 

Martinez led all rebounders in the game with 12.

Maldonado, Quintana, and Parker all scored in double-digits with 12, 11, and 10 respectively. 

Sully moves to 3-8 on the season and picked up their first conference win to improve to 1-1 in ASC play. The Lady Wildcats fall to 2-7 and 0-1.

The Lady Lobos next host the Belhaven Blazers this Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. tip at the Gallego Center.
