AUSTIN, Texas- A ninth-inning rally came up short as the Sul Ross Lobo baseball team (17-22) dropped a season-ending, 10-8 loss to Hardin-Simmons University (19-21) in day two of the American Southwest Red Bracket Tournament.

The Cowboys took command early scattering six unanswered runs over the first three innings.

Sully drove in three runs in the top of the fourth as Chris York scored on a bunt single by Jacob Pool. A single to right center by Andres Martinez then brought Pool and Monty Maley across and pulled the Lobos to within three.

Hardin-Simmons spread the gap to four with a run scored in the bottom of the frame before a two-run seventh narrowed the Sul Ross deficit to two.

A double down the right field line by Tim Johnson scored Wesley Moss before York singled Johnson across as Sully trailed 7-5.

Hardin-Simmons scored three more insurance runs in the eighth to take a 10-5 advantage.

In the top of the ninth, Joseph Sanchez scored off a single by Johnson. Moss then scored on a wild pitch before Tye Lindsey came across off a sacrifice fly by Pool.

The game would end on a 5-4-3 double play securing the 10-8 Cowboy victory.

Starter Aaron Marquez was tagged with the loss after three innings.

Offensively, Johnson led the effort at 3-for-4 hitting with a run scored and two RBI.
