Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Lobos fall 61-49 to Schreiner #SRSU | #BrandEm | #ASChoops

KERRVILLE- Despite a game-high 25 points from Chandre Nunez, a strong first quarter gave the Mountaineers enough space throughout for a 61-49 win over the Lady Lobos Tuesday in Kerrville.

Maria Maldonado tied things 2-2 on a layup just 1:14 into the game.

A Peyton Anastas layup later cut the early deficit to a 6-4 score through the first 3:09 of the first quarter.

Schreiner went on to outscore Sul Ross 17-3 over the next 6:51 to lead 23-7 going to the second quarter.

Both sides traded baskets in the second and the Mountaineers were able to extend their lead to 34-17 heading to the break.

Schreiner was able to outscore the Lady Lobos 16-13 in the third to take a 50-30 lead to the fourth.

A 4-0 run would balloon the lead to 24 for the Mountaineers before Sully attempted a late comeback.

The Lady Lobos took control of the quarter after the early run and outscored Schreiner 19-7 the rest of the way. Sully would not have enough time to complete the comeback effort as the Mountaineers came away with the 61-49 win.

Nunez's 25 points are a season-high. This comes after a 24-point night this past Saturday against Texas Lutheran. She also added four rebounds and two steals.

Peyton Anastas tied a game-high with eight rebounds to go with six points and two steals.

Maldonado added eight points, seven rebounds, six steals, and two assists.

The Lady Lobos season record stands at 2-7. Schreiner improves to 2-6.

Sully starts American Southwest Conference play this Saturday in Brownwood with a 1:00 p.m. tip against Howard Payne.
